Job Summary: To coordinate the purchasing and inventory of materials, parts, equipment, and supplies for the organization by performing the following duties:

  • Coordinates all activities related to purchasing beginning with intent to purchase through delivery.
  • Analyzes the requirements, including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, and date required.
  • Solicits and evaluates bid proposals.
  • Investigates and/or interviews potential suppliers to determine if they meet the specified requirements.
  • Advises team members or management on the appropriate supplier to be used.
  • Negotiates the lowest possible cost balanced against the optimum quality and schedule needs.
  • Mitigates current and potential cost increases.
  • Devises and implements creative material ordering methods to minimize inventory commitments and reduce lead times.
  • Assures on time delivery, at the negotiated price and to agreed quality standards.
  • Maintains timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to assure accurate retention of records.
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • Work Experience:  4+ years of applicable experience. Must have experience in a manufacturing environment preferably with electronics type commoditites.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university, an MBA a plus.  
  •  
  • Language skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, co-workers.
  • Mathematical skills:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Reasoning skills: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Access Database software; Internet software; MRP software systems; Microsoft Office Products including Word and Excel software.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  APICS or CPIM certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.
  • Travel:  Some travel to vendor sites will be required.

  • While performing the duties of this job, employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear, or use hands. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Vision abilities required by the job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
